A British company called NXT has found a way to turn a computer display into a speaker, without interfering with the quality of the picture. NXT argues its technology has major advantages over conventional speakers. It says its SoundVU technology distributes frequencies evenly across a room, producing what audio buffs call a universal "sweet spot". [via BBC]

FlashComm Server MX 1.5 is the latest update of the Communication Server. If you don't know what this is:

Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX integrates support for streaming media, real-time collaboration, and multi-way video, audio, and text messaging into a single solution. With HTTP Tunneling and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) gateway support, server traffic can now traverse firewalls and proxies and deliver secure information to ensure everyone can experience the content. MP3 support enables developers to stream high-quality audio without requiring the user to download and playback audio files. Audio support is also improved in this update through better synchronization with video and better latency management for live streams

A lot of hype about this forward thinking development from Macromedia.

'Flash Unplugged. Way cool. And useful.
I was extremely excited the first time I saw an internal demo of this new product. As a Mac user, I've become dependent on Watson for TV listings, phone number lookup, weather, movies... To have similar functionality in a desktop Flash application that can also be easily extended and also work offline is pretty much a dream come true for (and, I hope, many others)!' Yet another windows flash app development tool has been released utilising the ever useful FS Commands. This time it's Multi Dimensional Media.

"Flash Studio PRO 1.9 extends the ultimate SWF2EXE application with over 50 new FSCommands including extended http processor commands for never before seen remote control of your Projectors! Control your application from anywhere in the world from any wireless or internet enabled device with custom response messages!"

Also recently released is Screentime Media's SWF Desktop enabling dynamic data-driven wallpapers. XML, Video pretty much anything.

While on the subject, there are two other releases that look set to change the way Flash is used. First is the cheekily named Screenweaver MX which looks incredibly powerful and SWF Studio V2. All are available for windows only at the moment.
