OK so I'm probably not the first to point this out but I have just watched the trailer for the fan film, 'Star Wars Revelations' and I admit I was expecting something pretty crappy but I was actually quite impressed, at least with the animation and 3d modelling, the acting and film quality is not quite what you would expect in a real Star Wars film but for $20k it's a pretty impressive attempt!

OMG, $20K for this movie! They must have spent most of it on the CG.

The CG is very impressive. In fact, I'd give their CG team huge kudos for their work. They were very creative and made sure that they included city and fly over shots found in the first two SW flicks.

However the dialog and the directing were less than desirable. I wish they only would have spent as much time on it as they did the CG. No Centralized character was established (either through dialog or camera). Actors tended to be to "self aware"-- flinging or fixing their hair. And there's the lady in red Taryn Anwar (character name) who is rather over the top. I was to caught up in the acting or annoyed by a camera angles or lost in the script to really appreciate the movie as a whole. For instance: Felux always tried to show two or more people in every shot--if there are two or more people in the room. I never got a close connection with any of the characters. Because of the script and the camera they were rather flat and I couldn't get to know any of them.

It would have been nice to have character development, better dialog and camera shots that allow us to feel or experience the characters.

Well, if they were emulating Hollywood, then we all know that CG ranks number one with script, direction and acting lurking down the bottom of the list ;)
