So I bought the Agile Development with Ruby on Rails book and have been ploughing through that with difficulty so I figured I should probably try and get my head around MVC frameworks with PHP first so at least I understand the syntax. I've looked at a few, most of which work in much the same way as RoR, and one really caught my eye, CakePHP. Today I was browsing around and found that Jonathan Snook has written a couple of articles on getting started with CakePHP, and whilst looking through the comments I came across another suggested framework, Code Igniter and having just watched the 2 video tutorials I think this simplified framework is just what I need to dive in and get up to speed. I have a project on the cards which I really want to use a PHP framework for as it needs to be scalable and very easy to edit and debug, this could be just the thing!Jon 1:45 PM Permalink
I haven't blogged for a while as I've been kind of caught up staying up late watching the Football, stupid timezones! The last England game was at 1am here in Sydney on a monday morning, yeah thanks! But we won, we still are yet to impress but haven't lost a game so I'm happy.
I have been very impressed with Fifa's official site which has had (flash) video highlights of every game so far. I don't understand why the BBC site doesn't have the same feature? Maybe its a licensing issue? Anyway with the recent surge of video on the web especially with the incredible YouTube revolution it has become really easy to keep up to date, within an hour of a game there is usually a video of the goals although the legality of these videos will surely change the way YouTube operates in the future?

Well it's 3 points in the bag but not the most convincing performance of all time by England, but the 1-0 victory over Paraguay has put us in a great position for the next 2 games against Trinidad & Tobago and Sweden and with the hopeful inclusion of Wayne Rooney we should definitely progress to the next round. How about Australia last night? I couldn't believe it, what a comeback! 1-0 down to a 3-1 win is no mean feat especially as Australia have never scored in a World Cup before. Fantastic result.

Apart from treating myself to a new England shirt which is flying its way over to Sydney courtesy of Kitbag.com I have signed up for the World Cup package on my 3 mobile network. I now have access to video highlights and team news and the most amazing thing (I think) live streaming TV courtesy of SBS all for $8 (month) so I never have to worry about missing anything... mind you the games are 11pm, 2am and 5am so the TV thing is just a gimmick really but still very very cool!Jon 10:56 PM Permalink
